President's Corner

The Cranbury Lions should feel good about the service we provide the youth in our community. Twelve Cranbury Lions participated in the joint Lion & PTO Pumpkin Carving Family Event at the Cranbury School. There were about 100 pumpkins judged for the contest and many more were not even entered in the contest. It was a fun evening for ALL who attended. I know that I can speak for all the Lions who attended the meeting with the Jamesburg Leos to honor them for their Leo Club Excellence Award; it was very rewarding to see the Leo's run a meeting with so many guests. I encourage all the Lions to help the Leos with their fundraiser for breast cancer research by purchasing a key chain or bracelet. There will be some items for sale at our November meeting. Cranbury middle school students are busy creating their Peace Posters. All Lions and their spouses are asked to come to the Peace Poster Dessert Meeting at the Large Group room in the Cranbury School on November 20th. The program is to honor the young artists for their creations. All peace posters will be displayed. This is a great time to interact with the youth and their parents.
Yours in Service, President Fay

Things To Know

On October 14, 2013, Lion Jon Goldstein and President Fay presented a check for $1,230 to the Cranbury Public Library Foundation for their building fund. The Cranbury Lions collected $464.72 on White Cane Day on Saturday October 21st at the ShopRite Store in Hightstown, NJ. Thank you to Lion Phyllis Johnson, Chairperson, and Lions John Ryan, Jon Goldstein, Dave Shaffer, Alex Johnson, Phyllis Johnson, Jeff Grundy and Neal Wagman for a great team effort.

The Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest was held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Cranbury School Cafeteria through the joint efforts of the Cranbury Lions and the Cranbury School PTO. Lion Chair Dave Cook emceed this uniquely fun event with his normal aplomb; a total of 12 lions assisted. Lions Christine Thompson and Elaine Homoky brought the donuts and cider for refreshments, Lions Alex Johnson and Rick Burke assisted with the judging, Lion Roy Reinhardt provided pumpkins for sale, Lions Jeff Grundy and Frank Vesci helped at the refreshment table, Lions Phyllis Johnson, Glenn Johnson, Fay Kobland and John Kobland attended. Dave's son helped collect money for the pumpkins. Special thanks to all! A video of the event can be viewed at: Pumpkin Carving.

Results of the pumpkin judging: First place winner, Nora Devine, Second place, Flynn Kinney and Third place Grace Forrest. Also recognized JP, Sawyer & Mr. Kinney; Miranda Cai; Annie Callahan & Erin Liggio; Emily & CJ Matehama; the Dixon Family; McKenna Ryba; Justin Tang; the Mauger family; Brady Ryan; Ava & Christina, and Yanna Z. Congratulations to all the pumpkin carvers!

The Annual Peace Poster Meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 7:30 pm in the Large Group Room at the Cranbury School; dessert will be served. All Cranbury Lions are encouraged to attend in support of the students' artistic efforts.

Plans for the Annual Pancake Breakfast on December 8th have been finalized. Co-Chairpersons Andre Mento and Christine Thompson will shortly be sending out tickets and work assignments to all Lions. Lion Tom Reilly and members of the Golden Agers have volunteered to help sell tickets. Thank you Golden Agers! Lion Rick Burke has created an eye-catching poster advertising the concurrent Poinsettia sale; posters will be distributed throughout the town. The beautiful 'guaranteed or your money-back' poinsettias may be ordered ahead of the breakfast and they will be hand-delivered upon request.

The Advertising/Placemat Efforts for our club are being spearheaded by Lion Elaine Homoky. This is an important fundraising endeavor to advertise both the club and sponsors who elect to support us. Lion Elaine reports that we are well on track to have the new placemats in hand for the Pancake Breakfast.

Lion Frank Vesci is making plans to coordinate collection of toys for the Toys for Tots program under the auspices of the U.S. Marines. More information will be forthcoming on this noble effort.
